Research of Film Posters - An Education (Jarrad)

An Education (2009)

This is the film poster for a film called "An Education". The film is about how a girl in the 1960s life changes when a playboy nearly twice her age arrives in London.

Names of actors/actresses:
There are seven names of the actors and actresses who play in this film. They are fairly understated/cannot be seen easily. Two of the names "Carey Mulligan" and "Peter Sarsgaard" are on the poster to show they are important/main characters in the film. They are in character form.

Main text vs. Image:

The main text is kept away from the main image, however the actual title absorbs the background to make it flow nicely and not look out of place.

References:

There is reference to two other films on this poster. These are: "About a boy" and "High Fidelity."

Main image:

The main image is of the two main characters who star in this film.

Tagline/cultural references:

There is not a tagline on this poster however, there is a cultural reference which refers to: "Lone Scherfig."

Website:

There are two websites on this poster, one of them is for the film itself and the other is for Sony Classics, where you can purchase/find the film itself.

Critics praise:

There is no sign of any critics praise - no ratings or reviews to tell potential audiences about the film.

Title size/font/colour

The title is much larger than the other text on the poster. The font of the title is sans serif meaning that it is bold and easy to read. The colour of the title is very interesting as it blends into the background picture, which is different and you don't see it often.

Billing/Production Block:The billing/production block on this poster is very generic but it sort of fits with the whole minimalistic theme the poster is using.

Image background:

The main characters are placed over a real photo background to give the audience the feeling that the characters are actually in that place rather than somewhere else. It also gives off the impression that there might be a scene within the film that is the same or similar to the poster.

Drawn Imagery:There is no drawn imagery on this poster. This might mean that this film is very serious or there might not be need for any in the first place.

Age certification & release date:

There is not an age certification or release date on this poster.

Genre & Representation:The poster shows or gives off the impression that the genre of this film is either a drama or a romantic film. In actual fact, this film is a drama. The reason why the audience may think that this is a drama or romantic film is because the man and woman are lying down together, almost holding one another.

The representation of this film is possibly middle class females - due to the woman's costume, hair and make up. In addition, the man is wearing a suit meaning that it could be a representation of middle class.
