Final Poster - Kazumi

Version 1. Face to Face

In this poster I have two characters face to face.

Version 2. Backs against each other

In this version I placed the characters in the middle with their backs against each other.

Version 3. Combining all the ideas we had from each draft

In this version I put all the ideas together from each of our poster drafts. 

I added;

• two characters' crossing path on the grass with desaturation effect
• close ups of two faces
• the field
• the dark figures to show mystery and hint that they don't know each other
• darker colours at the edges

I also changed the thickness of the font because the font on previous two versions' looks too fat and too bold. 

I personally like the third version, but I'm going to get some feedback on these three versions to see which one is more appropriate for our film.

Second Attempt of My Poster Design - Kazumi

After I looked at all our footage, I realised that we don't have proper shots that can be used for our poster. Therefore I had an idea of using Marigold Hotel's poster as template/example. 

1. Untouched Background

These are the shots that only show the characters' faces.

2. Blurred out Background

I blurred the background in order to show the focus on the characters' faces because I don't want audience to notice the images that we took from our footage have low quality. 

We can see that the second one looks like it's taken by a proper camera. I thought the blurred background will help the quality of the image look better but it became unnecessary. By removing the backgrounds of the characters turn out to be looking quite ok so I added the small information at the bottom. 

Initial Design

This is the initial design based on the idea from Marigold Hotel poster.

However, it simply didn't work because the face only shots that we have are too close up to be used for the poster. So I decided to go for a different design.

Adding Logo to Our Film

I just added a logo to our film. I placed it in the beginning of the film as that's where we typically see company logos are. I also used fade in and out transitions so appearance of the logo becomes smooth. I decided not to add any sound effect for the logo because I couldn't find a good one neither I think its necessary. 

I was trying to upload the latest version of our film onto Youtube but I found that the video file wasn't right, or for some reason the image didn't appear and I could only hear the sound. I'm going to check with technician about it and upload it on this post.

Recording Sound
On my way home, I used my iPhone to record some sounds at train station as I was advised. I recorded; the announcement of the train schedule, door opening sound, inside the train (people talking and sound of the wheels), and train honk.

Poster Problem
Just in case if we couldn't get any proper photos, I did some screenshots from our footage as back ups.

Our poster idea is to focus on the faces of the characters therefore I looked for close up of the characters; however I could only find these photos because we didn't film that many close ups. (above) Although I managed to find some close ups, these photos are difficult to use because the faces will fill up the poster, we can't do anything with frame edge. 

Here's an example to show the problem:

As you can see the head of the character is not fully seen in the image. If I remove the background, it'll look like this (left below). After removing the frame edge we can still see there's a frame.

If I put two images together like below, the poster won't look too bad. But the new image will give a new problem that that there's no space for any texts and names.

Solution

It might be better to collect more images that shows same actions between two characters and put them in separate lines(?) like Marigold Hotel poster.

Logo For Our Film & Poster - Kazumi

I designed some logos (click to see the initial ideas for our logo) and decided to use one of them for our poster & film.

This is going to be shown in all our products so the audience will know that the film is ours. I chose this design because I think this might be the easiest one to organise our poster, and also because the gorilla(?) doesn't look too scary in this scale. It's all designed in Photoshop, the font & the image I used are from Dafont.com (copyright free font website).

I'm going to add this in the beginning of our film and at the bottom of our poster. I'm still waiting for the proper image for our poster and if we couldn't get proper image, we might use image from our footage.

Poster Background - Kazumi

I loaded some photos of the field onto the computer. (all photos taken by Jarrad)

I chose the best one for our poster's background. 

Here's what I chose.

I chose this photo because this is the only one that has clear and focused field. I edited this into more dramatic way, by adding saturation, colours, contrast. etc. in Photoshop.

This is going to be the background for our poster.
